Windows Components

Some features of Cardbox 3.0 require software components that may not be present in every Windows installation.

Microsoft Data Access Components

If (and only if) you want to use File > Import From Database to import data directly into Cardbox from an external database such as Access or Excel, then you need to have MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components) installed.

MDAC is automatically part of Windows 2000 and above (including Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7).  It is also installed as part of the installation of other software packages, including some versions of Internet Explorer, so you may already have it.  To check if you have MDAC, use File > Import From Database and see if Cardbox gives you an error message.

If you do not have MDAC, then you can download it from Microsoft's web site.  Their Universal Data Access download page has a long list of available versions of MDAC: they are all suitable as far as Cardbox is concerned.

Microsoft XML Core Services

If you want to export XML data using XSLT transforms, you need to use the latest release (version 4) of the Microsoft XML Core Services.

You do not need this if you only intend to export data in Cardbox's own XML format: this does not require the Core Services.

This software may already be present on your system, especially if you have installed a recent version of Microsoft Office.  If it is not, Cardbox will report an error if you try to use the XML facilities.

To find a downloadable version of MSXML 4.0, search Microsoft's web site for "MSXML 4.0" or for "XML Core Services".
