Value Added Tax
Prices in this list exclude Value Added Tax (VAT).
UK customers and EU customers without a VAT registration number: UK VAT should be added to all prices listed here. The current rate is 15% for software and licences and 0% for books and manuals.
Customers from outside the EU, and EU customers who quote a valid VAT registration number: VAT will not be added.
Professional Edition
Allows read/write access to databases on your own computer. Also allows access to databases on the Cardbox Server. Includes two comprehensive manuals: "The Cardbox Book" and "Cardbox: Macros and Programming".
Single-user
Single user Professional Edition - £299
Each copy of the Professional Edition may be used by only one person at a time.
Multi-user (networking)
Multi-user licences allow several people to use the same copy of the Professional Edition. They are available only for users who share a single installation of Cardbox on a single network.
Normally you will want people on the network to be able to share databases. If several users want to have access to the same database at the same time you also need to buy the Cardbox Server, because Cardbox on its own will not allow the sharing of databases. For this reason the usual starting point with networking is:

This includes a 3-user Professional Edition licence, a Cardbox Server licence, and one copy each of "The Cardbox Book", "Cardbox: Macros and Programming" and "The Cardbox Server Book".
Additional 1 user - £150

These prices do not include additional manuals, which should be bought separately if you need them. If you need prices for installations of 50 users and above, please contact us or our distributors.
Licences can be added together as necessary and extra licences can be bought at any time.
Licensing is on a per-simultaneous-user and not on a per-seat basis: that is, any number of people can have access to a shared Cardbox installation as long as the number of people running Cardbox at any one time does not exceed the number given in the licence.
Independent users
For users who want to use Cardbox independently (ie. not always connected to the same network as the other users), a separate licence must be bought.
For example: someone who uses Cardbox on a laptop separate from the main corporate network will have to have a separate single-user copy of Cardbox. If that user then connects to a network that has a 3-user licence, up to 4 simultaneous users can be handled: the laptop user, plus 3 further users who share the 3-user licence.

Home Edition
Allows read/write access to databases on your own computer, with a limited set of features and subject to restrictions on database size. Also allows shared access to databases on the Cardbox Server. Includes a comprehensive manual (a special edition of "The Cardbox Book").
Home Edition (single user) - £46.00 (plus VAT)
Each copy of the Home Edition may be used by only one person at a time.
Client Edition
Allows read-only access to databases on your own computer, with a limited set of features. Also allows access to databases on the Cardbox Server. No manual is included, but "The Cardbox Book" can be purchased separately.
Client Edition - downloadable free of charge from the Cardbox web site.
The Cardbox Book
For simple applications, you should be able to use the Client Edition by looking through its menus and the comprehensive help file: whoever created the databases that you are accessing with the Client Edition may also have given you instructions tailored to their particular databases. If you want a complete reference to Cardbox, get The Cardbox Book: this is the same manual that comes with the Professional Edition.
The Cardbox Book - £39.99 (VAT is charged at 0%)
Note that the Home Edition costs very little more than The Cardbox Book and comes with a licensed version of the Cardbox software which you can use to create your own personal databases.
Cardbox Server
Allows Cardbox databases to be shared between users. Includes a comprehensive manual: "The Cardbox Server Book".
Cardbox Server - £275
You would not normally buy a Cardbox Server on its own, since the 3-user starter pack includes the Cardbox Server and is much cheaper than buying the components separately; but occasionally you may need to buy the Cardbox Server alone. For example, you may want to set up a server to publish databases, or you may want to set up networking when you already have all the Cardbox licences that you need.
User licences for the Cardbox Server
Licensed users of the Professional Edition can connect to the Cardbox Server without the need for any additional licence.
If Client Edition or Home Edition users want to connect to the Cardbox Server, the Cardbox Server needs to have a licence to support them, as follows:
Read/write users
The Cardbox Server accepts the same Additional User licence packs that are sold for the Professional Edition.
Read-only users
Each block of 5 read-only users - £150
Unlimited read-only users - £900
Middleware
If you are using third-party programs to retrieve data from a Cardbox Server then this requires a read-only licence for unlimited users.
Upgrades
To upgrade from the Home Edition to the Professional Edition, deduct the price of the Home Edition from the price of whichever Professional Edition configuration you want. You don't need The Cardbox Book because the Home Edition book already contains the same information; but you will receive the Macros and Programming book, plus The Cardbox Server Book if appropriate.
The cost to upgrade from a single-user Professional Edition to a 3-user network version is simply the difference in price: £276. You will receive a copy of The Cardbox Server Book.
Within a network version, all increases in the number of users are done simply by buying additional user licences at the prices shown above. The My Cardbox page can calculate the costs for you.
Technical support
Support and upgrade subscriptions are available for the Professional Edition only. They entitle you to free technical support by email and free upgrades to new releases of the Cardbox software. The annual subscription rate (after an initial free period) is 12½% of the list price of your Cardbox configuration: for example, £37.50 for a single-user or £184.50 for a 10-user system.
